Benji Filmer is an independent artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and mixing engineer based in Birmingham, UK. Blending elements of contemporary folk, indie, ambient, and pop, his work is characterised by emotive songwriting, detailed production, and immersive sonic landscapes that balance intimacy with cinematic depth.Alongside his work as a recording artist, Benji has established himself as a producer, mixing engineer, and mastering engineer, collaborating with a diverse range of artists across the UK. His studio work focuses on bringing authenticity and clarity to every project, combining technical precision with a deep understanding of songwriting and arrangement. He also has experience working with immersive audio formats, including Dolby Atmos production and recording, creating spatial listening experiences that push beyond traditional stereo formats.As an artist, Benji has release his debut album: "Before, After", a deeply personal collection of songs exploring themes of home, change, identity, and the transition from Norfolk to university life in Birmingham. The record captures a pivotal chapter of his life, documenting both physical and emotional journeys through richly layered production and reflective storytelling.Benji’s music has received continued support from BBC Introducing, including multiple radio plays and a live session performance for BBC Introducing at BBC Radio Suffolk and Norfolk. His work has also been featured by respected independent folk and acoustic curators, helping him build an audience across the UK and beyond.A passionate live performer, Benji has appeared on stages throughout the country, supporting touring artists and performing at venues and festivals across the UK. In 2025, he performed original material at New Forest Folk Festival, further establishing himself as a rising voice within the contemporary folk scene.Beyond his solo work, Benji is a founding member of the folk band Crossroads, where he plays guitar and helps create original arrangements inspired by traditional folk tunes. The band has performed at festivals and venues across the UK.Originally from Norfolk, Benji moved to Birmingham to study Music Technology at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he developed his expertise in music production, recording, mixing, and immersive audio. Alongside his artistic projects, he works within Birmingham’s music education sector, helping support the next generation of musicians while continuing to expand his own creative and technical practice.
